Titanium Components Supplied To The Aerospace Industry

We are proud to supply the aerospace industry, helping businesses within aerospace engineering to flourish with a supply of our high-quality components manufactured from titanium (Ti).

We offer tailored advice on special metals from real engineers, helping to guide our customers to make the most valuable purchases. Often, within aerospace, the solution is the use of titanium. For use with extremely high and low-temperature fluctuations, and of course, the importance of strength to weight ratio.

aerospace industry

The popularity of using titanium within aerospace projects sparked in the US around the time of the Cold War. The military was scouting for a durable material with very specific capabilities, that gradually worked its way into the commercial aerospace industry.

This wasn’t only happening within the US, but the UK aerospace industry was also starting to implement titanium components, framework, and more, with knowledge of the materials fantastic benefits. Titanium is one material that fits the aerospace industry like a glove!

Advantages of Titanium

Why has titanium become such a widely adopted material for the aerospace industry?  By looking at the properties of titanium, you’ll find the answer.

  • Titanium has great durability in areas of  low temperature
  • Titanium has great durability at extremely high temperature
    • Titanium is a lightweight alloy when compared to alternatives
    • The high strength properties of titanium make it a worthy long-term investment
    • High corrosion resistances – especially oxidation because of the immediate forming of a coating upon exposure to air

Uses of Titanium

Listed examples of what titanium is used for (but not limited to!) :

1
  • Aircraft engine manufacture
  • Applications requiring lightweight solutions
  • Frames
  • Discs
  • Blades and shafts
  • Aircraft hydraulic systems
  • Armor plating and defence industry equipment
  • Propellers
  • Fan blades
  • Parts for landing gear

UK Supplied Titanium Components

Waverley Brownall is proud to supply the UK aerospace industry with the necessary components for on-going projects.

Our components are manufactured from Titanium, machined via highly technically-capable CNCs, accompanied at all times by experienced engineers.

These are then supplied to our customer, with fast delivery options available and a high-flexibility that our competitors don’t offer.

We also specialise in the manufacture of bespoke titanium products.

Inconel 625 Oxidation Resistance

Inconel 625 oxidation resistance is higher than that of other alloys. It is one of the many reasons that this alloy is purchased so commonly within the industries of chemical process and aerospace.

Oxidation is reliant mainly on the oxygen level of the atmosphere, with gases such as carbon dioxide and steam supporting the reaction.

Other properties of alloy 625 include resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and resistance to nonoxidizing atmospheres, thanks to the added Nickel and molybdenum present within the material.

Inconel 625 Oxidation Resistance Charts

Comparative burner rig oxidation resistance tests at 1000 Hours were carried out by Haynes International. Samples included 9mm x 64mm x thickness) in a rotating holder with x2 types of fuel oils.

Burned at a ratio of air to fuel 50:1 for 1000 hours of testing. Please note: Samples used were removed from the gas stream every 30 minutes, in which they would be fan cooled to a ambient temperature – allowing reinsertion into the tunnel.

The New SR-32J TYPE N Machine Arrives

The New SR-32J TYPE N Machine Arrives

On Friday 31st, Waverley Brownall greeted their awaited arrival
– a brand new, STAR SR-32J (Type N) CNC Machine.

This machine was lifted into the premises via roller and crane assistance,
and will be added to WB’s already extensive list of CNC machines
in the manufacturing workshop.

Main Features

  • Main and sub-spindles: C-axis control
  • Six 16mm turning tools
  • Rigid sleeved main construction
  • 32-35mm machining diameter
  • Heavy duty cutting capability
  • 5 Cross power tools
  • Swing out operation panel (Fanuc 32i-B)

This Star CNC Lathe is known for its impressive and efficient machining abilities, offering the same speed and versatility as a traditional sliding head lathe – without the requirement of a guide bush. More parts can be processed and machined from raw materials, due to the decrease in remnant length.
