Pipe Fittings For The Oil And Gas Industry

Pipe Fittings For The Oil And Gas Industry

oil and gas industryPipe fittings are used in a whole range of applications within many industries, including Oil and Gas.

What is the Oil and Gas Industry?

The Oil and Gas Industry is one of the world’s largest, supplying power across the world. It impacts our everyday living, from fuelling your car to heating your home.

The 3 largest oil companies at present are: Saudi Aramco, the National Iranian Oil Company and Qatar General Petroleum Corporation.

Oil and Gas is considered as one out of a five total sections of the entire Petroleum Industry. (According to The American Petroleum Institute.)

The Petroleum/Oil and Gas Industry includes: Exploration, extraction, refining, transporting and the marketing of products. The products of the highest volume within this industry are fuel oil and petrol (gasoline.)

The top 5 aspects of this industry (according to Oil and Gas UK) are:
1. The geological setting
2. Exploration and development
3. The production of new technology and fields
4. Decommissioning projects
5. The operating environment

How To Order Steel Tube That Won’t Let You Down

The majority of our custom base requires stainless steel tube and compression fittings for an industrial environment – ensuring the flow and control of that flow is the highest quality at a range of temperatures and pressures.

The integrity of a compression fitting connection is highly dependent upon the correct selection of tubing and on its correct preparation.

It is important to order the correct stainless steel tube, that is of a high quality for any application. This is why we supply 316L tube to BS 9001 standard.

How To Order Steel Tube

To order your tube, please email us at

enquiries@waverleybrownall.co.uk

Metric or imperial sizes available – 3 metre and 6 metre length.

Sizes up to 1 inch tube O.D Outside Diameter and 0.109″ wall thickness.

We supply stainless steel tube to Conoco Phillips, SGN and National Grid. By choosing to order with us, you are choosing a guaranteed high-quality UK based supplier that is trusted by the biggest brands.

Steel Tube – Ensuring Quality

These are four variables to be considered when selecting tube:

a. Tubing Material

b. Tubing Wall Thickness

c. Tubing Surface Finish

d. Tubing Hardness

The key to leak proof fitting is that the tube must be softer than the ferrule for the correct “coining” action to take place.

The tube specification should include material, hardness, wall thickness and surface finish. Tube should never be harder than the ferrules contained in the connector i.e. Monel ferrules should never be used on stainless steel tube as this could adversely affect the performance of the ferrules.

The tube wall thickness for maximum working pressures, together with recommendations for gas use, and when to pre-assemble are to be found in the Ringlok and Duoloc catalogues.

Tube Material Selection

Waverley Brownall can supply tube in a large range of materials. This includes grade 316 stainless steel tube as standard. Steel tube is the most popular tube type within the majority of industrial applications.

However, other, more advanced materials are able to give you more advanced capabilities. This includes a higher corrosion resistance and general strength than steel.

Non-Return Valve specification

Parts list and breakdown, including an inlet at the base following from PART F upward to PART A to an outlet.

check valve non return valve diagram

PART A – Valve Body
PART B – Spring
PART C – Piston
PART D – Piston Seal
PART E – Body Seal
PART F – Valve Seat

Seal Type

P.T.F.E Seals are supplied as standard unless use of Viton seals are necessary.

The use of P.T.F.E seals with non-return valves up to 3/8″ containing a low pressure spring such as 2-5psi, combined with low back pressure, can lead to difficulty in forming a leak-tight seal between the piston seal and the cone seat. This is overcome by using either a Viton seal or a stronger spring. Valve opening pressures of 35 psi are available up to 1/2″, with 2-5 psi only available for 3/4″ and upward.

Seal Kits

Replacement seal kits are available and consist of the following items; piston seal, body seal and spring.

Replacement seal kit part numbers for immediate order:

Valve Size Part Number
1/4″ CV2 SEALS
3/8″ CV3 SEALS
1/2″ CV4 SEALS
3/4″ CV6 SEALS
1″ CV8 SEALS

In Line Filters

A filter should always be placed upstream of the non-return valve when the media has solids suspended in it. If a filter is not used the piston seal may become damaged, so allowing the media to flow back upstream.
