Tube VS. Pipe, which would be better for your application?
Tube VS. Pipe
We have listed 8 advantages to use tubing over pipe based on usability and maintenance.
1. Tube is easier to install without the need for special tooling to cut threads. Standard spanners are all that is required.
2. Tube is easier to manipulate, bend, because of the thinner wall sections. Pipe on the other hand cannot be bent easily therefore elbows are usually required which introduces extra leak paths for the extra fittings. Therefore tube installations are far quicker and cost-effective than pipe.
3. No thread sealant is required prior to assembly, as would be the case for taper threaded pipe ends.
4. Systems much easier to disassemble for scheduled maintenance.
5. Tube is lighter since no allowances are required for threading whilst maintaining sufficient wall thickness.
6. The gradual tube bends provide better fluid flow and ultimately smaller pressure drops, as opposed to the sharp bends in elbows which create greater pressure drops due to turbulence and the loss of potential energy.

We supply stainless steel tube to our customers in many sizes, including up to 1 inch OD. Wall thicknesses up to 0.109″ or 3.0mm. Our tubing ISO 9001 approved.
We can advise you on what tube sizes are recommended for gas service as apposed to other services, such as water or corrosive substances.
Our tube is compatible with single and double ferrule Waverley Brownall fittings.
