The History Of Waverley Brownall Limited

The History Of Waverley Brownall Limited

Waverley’s story began over a century ago in their factory based in Willesden which they operated until 1973. From 1910-1915, the company traded under the name of Light Cars Ltd manufacturing a car called The Waverley.

In 1915 the company’s name changed to Waverley Cars Ltd but production of motor vehicles ended during the war and the works was turned over to munitions production.

However, after the war, car production was commenced immediately and quickly included a 4 model line-up. Waverley continued to make and sell cars up to 1931, by which time another name change had occurred (The Waverley Car and Engineering Co Ltd.)

The Introduction Of Instrumentation Products

The company carried on supplying the car industry but also manufactured and sold a range of other components which included pipe fittings.

In 1967 the company changed its name to Waverley Components and Products Ltd and concentrated on selling its range of stainless steel tube fittings, which by 1979 were being manufactured in Southend-On-Sea by Team Precision Engineering.

Waverley were in charge of stocking and selling, while Team Precision Engineering Ltd were the design and manufacturing hub. These two companies grew very rapidly, both out-growing their respective premises three times by 1985.

Waverley was now a major supplier of instrumentation products to a vast range of UK industries. The company continued to flourish and for a brief period between 1993 and 1999, Waverley became part of a small industrial group called Tatem. This group went on to acquire several other companies, which in 1998 included Brownall; a long-standing competitor of Waverley for the lucrative UK gas business.

By 1999, however, most of the groups companies were suffering from a general recession in manufacturing demand, and the founders of Tatem and Team Precision decided to jointly purchase Waverley and Brownall from the group.

So in 1999, the company became Waverley Brownall Ltd – now supplying a worldwide market from 5 locations within the UK.

In 2004, Waverley concentrated all of its activities (stock, manufacturing, designing) in a single location in Essex.

Waverley Brownall’s philosophy built on dedication to quality and customer services, has enabled us to flourish through a competitive and innovative market sector.

PRE-ASSEMBLY TOOLS AND CONSIDERATIONS

Pre-assembly tools: These tools are manufactured from hardened Maraging Steel and are designed to withstand repeated assemblies. Pre-assembly tools can be used as an aid to make sure joints are correct.

Assembly tools must be kept clean and lubricated at all times.

Pre-assembly is recommended: Assembly can sometimes present difficulties, especially if the compression fittings are going to be used in confined spaces. Thick wall tubes or standpipe adaptors may also present problems. Pre-assembly ensures the fittings placement and installation to be correct.

Pre-assembly will reduce installation stresses when tube sizes exceed 1/2″ (12mm) OD .

Assembly Instructions: Ringlok Twin Ferrule Compression Fittings

Assembly Instructions for Ringlok Twin Ferrule Compression Fittings.

how to assemble twin ferrule compression fittings

1. Cut the tube to the required length, leaving the ends square to the tube axis, remove all burrs.

2. Insert the prepared tube into the fitting assembly, ensuring the tube end fully enters the fitting, engages in the abutment diameter and that the nut is finger-tight.

3. For 1/16″, 1/8″, 3/16″ OD and 3mm, 4mm OD size fittings, tighten the nut 3/4 of a turn from finger-tight to complete the assembly.

All other sizes require use of 1 1/4 turns from finger-tight.

For blanking plugs, tighten the nut 1/6 of a turn from finger-tight.

Re-assembly: Ringlok fittings can be dissembled and reassembled many times without impairing the efficiency of the joints. Re-assembly instructions can be found here.
