7 Common Compression Fitting Problems

7 Common Compression Fitting Problems

This blog post deals with the problem areas which are most likely to be encountered during installation and maintenance of small bore systems.

Failure can usually be attributed to one or a combination of the following common compression fitting problems.

1. The installation has been completed using materials from different manufactures.

2. Materials that have been used for the installation are not to the correct specification, temperature or pressure rating.

3. The wrong type of sealant, or no sealant applied to threads.

4. The installation not adequately secured and supported, thus allowing vibration to occur, or damage from external impact to break the pipe integrity.

5. Fitting have not been made up correctly, often under tight.

6. Tubing has not been bottomed out in the fitting, or the tube is damaged or scored.

7. Corrosion can also have an adverse effect on the installation, from material incompatibility and the external environment, particularly where clamps are placed.
