The majority of our custom base requires stainless steel tube and compression fittings for an industrial environment – ensuring the flow and control of that flow is the highest quality at a range of temperatures and pressures.
The integrity of a compression fitting connection is highly dependent upon the correct selection of tubing and on its correct preparation.
It is important to order the correct stainless steel tube, that is of a high quality for any application. This is why we supply 316L tube to BS 9001 standard.

Steel Tube – Ensuring Quality
These are four variables to be considered when selecting tube:
a. Tubing Material
b. Tubing Wall Thickness
c. Tubing Surface Finish
d. Tubing Hardness
The key to leak proof fitting is that the tube must be softer than the ferrule for the correct “coining” action to take place.
The tube specification should include material, hardness, wall thickness and surface finish. Tube should never be harder than the ferrules contained in the connector i.e. Monel ferrules should never be used on stainless steel tube as this could adversely affect the performance of the ferrules.
The tube wall thickness for maximum working pressures, together with recommendations for gas use, and when to pre-assemble are to be found in the Ringlok and Duoloc catalogues.
Tube Material Selection
Waverley Brownall can supply tube in a large range of materials. This includes grade 316 stainless steel tube as standard. Steel tube is the most popular tube type within the majority of industrial applications.
However, other, more advanced materials are able to give you more advanced capabilities. This includes a higher corrosion resistance and general strength than steel.
